Ledger.com/Start®

Secure your crypto journey. Let's get started.

Welcome to Ledger®

Ledger is the safest way to secure your cryptocurrencies and NFTs. If you've just purchased a Ledger Nano S Plus or Nano X, you're in the right place. This page will guide you through setup, installation, and first-time use of your device.

Step 1: Unbox Your Device

When your Ledger arrives, ensure the box is sealed and hasn't been tampered with. Inside, you'll find your device, a USB cable, recovery sheets, and a quick start guide. Never use a device that appears used or unsealed.

Step 2: Go to Ledger Live

Visit Ledger.com/Start to download Ledger Live, the official application for managing your crypto. This application is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can also download it on Android and iOS devices for mobile access.

After downloading, install Ledger Live and follow the on-screen prompts. Make sure you're downloading from the official website to avoid phishing attempts.

Step 3: Initialize Your Device

Connect your Ledger device to your computer or phone. You’ll be prompted to set a new PIN code (4-8 digits). This PIN is used to unlock your device. Choose something secure, but memorable. Never share this code with anyone.

Once your PIN is set, you’ll be shown your 24-word recovery phrase. This phrase is your only backup and must be written down on the recovery sheet. Store this in a safe place offline — not on your computer or online storage.

Step 4: Verify Recovery Phrase

Ledger will prompt you to confirm your 24-word phrase by selecting each word in order. This ensures you've backed it up correctly. If you lose your recovery phrase, you will lose access to your assets.

Step 5: Add Accounts

In Ledger Live, go to “Accounts” and select “Add Account.” Choose the cryptocurrency you want to manage (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.). The app will guide you through connecting your Ledger and syncing the account.

You can manage multiple accounts, view your balances, and track transactions all in Ledger Live, with the assurance that your private keys never leave the device.

Step 6: Receive Your First Crypto

Once your account is added, you can receive crypto. Click “Receive,” choose the account, and copy the generated address. Double-check that the address matches what your Ledger device displays. This prevents address spoofing.

Share this address with the sender or use it to withdraw from exchanges. Your Ledger device doesn’t need to be connected to receive — just when verifying or sending.

Step 7: Sending Crypto

When you're ready to send crypto, click “Send,” input the recipient’s address, amount, and any optional notes or fees. Confirm the transaction on your Ledger device screen by physically approving it.

Always double-check transaction details on your Ledger device. This is a core security feature that protects against malware or phishing.
